Meeting was called to order by President Ron Corcorran at 7:18 PM

Old Business:

  • Motion was made by Bryan to approve the September 2013 meeting minutes which have been available for members to read online at the chapter website.  Second by Ray.  Motion approved.
  • Motion was made by Bryan to approve the September 2013 finance report given by the Treasurer, Ray Pyeatt.  Second by Dave.  Motion approved.
  • A check for $1100 was given to Barbara Davis, from the Stephens Co Youth Shelter.  This check represented the profits from the Chapter event at the “Kiddie Land Park” in Duncan, on September 28th.  This event was co-supported by FOP lodge #99.
  • Bryan gave an update on the past weekend event at his place at Lakeshore, on Possum Kingdom Lake in Texas.  It was a little chilly and only two members attended, however a good time was had by all.
  • Dave reminded everyone of the “All Okie Meeting” with all the Blue Knight Members/Chapters in Oklahoma, at 4:00 p.m. – Saturday, October 19, 2013, at the Cimarron Steak House, 201 N. Meridian, OKC –  www.cimarronsteakhouse.com  Mark your calendars and plan on attending.  We will be meeting at 3:00 p.m. at the Chickasha rest stop off of I-44 and ride up together.

New Business:

  • Dave gave a report on the 2013 Fall MWRC held in Broken Arrow, OK.  There were 61 people and 13 chapters in attendance.  During that meeting it was reported that there was 939 members and 36 chapters in the MWRC.
  • The 2014 Spring MWRC will be help in Davenport, Iowa, from 13-15 June.  More details can be found at – http://home.comcast.net/~wayneschwartz/MWRC/events.html  Make your hotel reservations now!
  • Ron reported for Dan that as we approach the fall change in colors it is time to plan a ride to the Talimena National Scenic Byway in Eastern Oklahoma and Western Arkansas.  Normally this ride is conducted the first or second weekend in November.  If you are interested, please contact Dan.
  • Brian gave a safety report on watching out for those four legged friends that like to come out at night and run in front of us, threshold breaking, steering, and how to lighten the front end prior to impact.

  • Motion was made by Bryan to approve the August 2013 meeting minutes which have been available for members to read online at the chapter website.  Second by Ray.  Motion approved.
  • Motion was made by David to approve the August 2013 finance report given by the Treasurer, Ray Pyeatt.  Second by Bryan.  Motion approved.
  • David gave everyone an update on the upcoming Chapter event at the “Kiddie Land Park” in Duncan, with all the proceeds going to Stephen Co Youth Shelter.  FOP lodge #99 will be co-hosting the event with us and will be paying for the park rental.  Bryan made a motion that we match the $280 and donate that in both of our names to the youth shelter.  Second by Dave.  Motion approved.  Dave also had color flyers to pass out to members so that they could post them, primarily in the Duncan area.  The event will be on Saturday, September 28th, from 6-8 PM.  Please come out and support!

New Business:

  • Bryan invited everyone to his place at Lakeshore, on Possum Kingdom Lake in Texas.  He stated that since it is a little late in the season, we will probably have the place to ourselves.  He will have his boat on the water so we can ski or tube and he will take his smoker for the ribs and brisket.  Lakeshore is approximately 120 miles south of Lawton and has cabins available with the fall rate.  The website address is www.lakeshoreonpk.com  If you are interested, please let Bryan know.
  • We are in the process of scheduling an “All Okie Meeting”  with all the Blue Knight Members/Chapters in Oklahoma, at 4:00 p.m. – Saturday, October 19, 2013, at the Cimarron Steak House, 201 N. Meridian, OKC –  www.cimarronsteakhouse.com  Mark your calendars and plan on attending

  • Motion was made by Bryan to approve the July 2013 meeting minutes which have been available for members to read online at the chapter website.  Second by David.  Motion approved.
  • Motion was made by Gilbert to approve the July 2013 finance report given by the Secretary, Dave McDermott.  Second by Bryan.  Motion approved.
  • Motion was made by Dave to not change the meeting dates after a group discussion on this item, which was tabled from the last meeting, felt that the current dates work out well for the majority of our members.  Second by Bryan.  Motion approved.
  • David presented a ride report on the ride to OKC to Joe’s Crab Shack on Friday, July 19th.  There were 18 people present with representatives from three different OK chapters (I, II, IV).
  • Ron talked about having a poker run supporting the Stephens Co. Youth Shelter because they are in need of some furniture, however after much discussion, the group as a whole felt that it might be a better idea to have an event at the “Kiddie Land Park” in Duncan and then donate any proceeds.  Ron stated that he would talk with the FOP President and possibly have them co-host it with us.  David will find out more info on the park.

New Business:

  • There will be an “event/poker run” meeting on Thursday, August 22nd, at “The Catch” located at behind the gas station at Pumpkin Center.  More details to follow.
  • Brian gave a safety report on leaving an exit point when approaching intersections as well as watching your rear view mirrors for cars that are approaching behind you.  Brian reminded everyone that you can also use a car as a “blocker” when in heavy traffic, city driving, and intersections.  You just have to make sure that the car you are using, knows where you are at.

Old Business:

  • Motion was made by Ray to approve the June 2013 meeting minutes which have been available for members to read online at the chapter website.  Second by Brian.  Motion approved.
  • Motion was made by Brian to approve the June 2013 finance report given by the Treasurer, Ray Pyaett.  Second by David.  Motion approved.
  • Dave gave a ride report on the Joint MWRC/RGC in Eureka Springs, AR.  We had a total of seven people from our chapter attend the event and a great time was had by all.  There were only two chapters from Oklahoma represented, OK II and IV.  There were 328 registered and 14 of the 36 chapters in the conference were present.

New Business:

  • David gave a ride update on this Friday’s (July 19) ride to Joe’s Crab Shack in OKC.  We will meet at the McDonalds on the turnpike at 6:30 PM and then proceed to OKC.  Other chapters in Oklahoma have been invited so we hope to see a great turnout.
  • David introduced Bill Fitzhugh, a detective from Duncan Police Department who was visiting the chapter as a possible member.
  • Details were given on the 2013 Fall MWRC meeting to be held in Broken Arrow, OK, from September 13-15.  Get your conference and hotel registrations submitted.
  • Butch reported that the Oklahoma State H.O.G. Rally will be held in Norman, OK, from October 17-19, 2013, see http://okstatehogrally.com for more details.
  • Brian gave a safety report on collision avoidance and threshold braking.  He also discussed the “Hurt Report” where the number one cause of a motorcycle accident is a car turning left in front of the motorcycle.  You should be scanning at least 14 seconds ahead of you for reaction time to other vehicle’s movements.
  • Leonard brought up a request on Whitey’s behalf about changing the meeting date.  According to Whitey, he is unable to make the meetings because of his work schedule.  It was discussed and tabled.

  • Motion was made by Brian to approve the May 2013 meeting minutes which have been available for members to read online at the chapter website.  Second by Ray.  Motion approved.
  • Motion was made by Dave to approve the May 2013 finance report given by the Treasurer, Ray Pyaett.  Second by Brian.  Motion approved.
  • The check for $250 that was to be presented to the Stephens Co Youth Shelter was returned to the Treasurer since the poker ride was cancelled by the sponsors (Freedom Biker Church).
  • David gave a ride report on the lunch ride to Altus with Oklahoma VI.  It was attended by at least 25 people and a great time was had by all.

New Business:

  • David stated that a follow up “lunch ride” to OKC (possibly on July 13) is in the works with Mondo from OK VI and invites will go out to all the other chapters in Oklahoma.
  • Dave stated at the IRS Form 990-N has been submitted and approved.  This is our yearly non-profit organization tax requirements to the IRS.
  • Possible chapter ride – 2013 Thunder in the Wichita’s Mystery Poker Run, Saturday, June 29th, sponsored by Wind River Harley Davidson, more to follow. – http://www.angelfire.com/ok/SWOKHOG/thunderflyer2013.pdf
  • An email will be sent out to all members about their thoughts on moving to the Rio Grand Conference (RGC) or voting to stay in the Midwest Regional Conference (MWRC), if that subject is ever asked.  See email for more details.
  • Bryan gave a safety briefing about basic group riding and corning techniques, and how dangerous is a quick response squeeze of the front break during a quick-stop verses rear braking.

The meeting was called to order by President Corcorran at 1914hrs.

No Secretary’s report and no Treasurer’s report.

Ron said that the Poker Run for the Youth Shelter that was sponsored by the Biker Church and has been scheduled for April 20th  had been cancelled. He still has the check for our Chapter donation and will get it back to Ray.

Dan talked about a couple of rides that are in the planning stages and asked for suggestions as to destinations from all Chapter members. If you have a destination or event that you would like to attend, you can either plan the ride and we will follow you or, if you prefer, get you suggestion to Ron, Dave, or Dan and they will plan the ride. The two rides that are being considered now are one that is southeast and could include Ft. Washita, Lake Murray, Ardmore, and the Davis/Sulphur area. The other is northeast and could include Seba Station, Arcadia, and the OKC/Edmond area.

David Woods said that the ride to meet OK VI in Altus is scheduled for May 18th. Times and meeting places will be sent out soon.

Bryan gave a safety presentation. He talked about checking tire pressure and how just a pound or two variation can affect the handling of the bike. He also had a hand out and talked about braking, highside dynamics and what happens when the rear tire locks up and ways to help avoid a highside incident. Very good information. If you missed the meeting, get with Bryan sometime and ask about it. It’s information that could save your life.

The next meeting (June 6th) will be in Chickasha. Locations and times to meet to ride up there will be sent out at a later date.

  • Motion was made by Leonard to approve the March 2013 finance report given by the Treasurer, Ray Pyaett.  Second by Don Ray.  Motion approved.
  • Dan stated that he has received responses from the other chapters that they were interested in the “BK Ride Oklahoma” event, however he has not received much response from anyone with ride suggestions and volunteers to meet other members that are visiting in their area.  If you are interested in volunteering or have a suggested ride here in the SW portion of Oklahoma, please contact Dan and let him know.
  • David stated that the ride with OK VI to eat lunch with them in Altus has been rescheduled to 18 May.   More info to follow on meeting places and times.
  • A motion was made by David and seconded by Ron to indefinitely postpone the poker ride for the Stephens Co Youth Shelter.  A flyer was located that the “Freedom Biker Church” is sponsoring a poker ride for the shelter on 20 Apr.  Motion approved.
  • A motion was made by Dave and seconded by Leonard to donate $250 to the youth shelter directly since the poker ride was cancelled.  It was discuss that the money would be donated during the above mentioned poker ride.  Motion approved.

New Business:

  • Dan stated that there are a few ride possibilities in the near future.

  • Dan mentioned as a possible fund raiser we could have a “kids” night at the local amusement park in Duncan.
  • Dan stated that it might be worthwhile to post an advertisement in the paper about what the Blue Knights are in a hope to improve our membership and community awareness of our organization.
  • For Sale – Dunlop D404G, 150/90/15, tire, $75, contact Dan if interested.
  • Bryan gave a safety briefing about tire air pressure and it is important as the new riding season approaches for everyone to spend a little time with refreshing their riding skills.  This is easily done in an empty parking lot.  You should spend time turning, braking, u-turn maneuvers, etc.

March 7, 2013 Meeting

  • Motion was made by Russell to approve the February 2013 meeting minutes which have been available for members to read online at the chapter website.  Second by Gilbert.  Motion approved.
  • Motion was made by Gilbert to approve the February 2013 finance report given by the Secretary, Dave McDermott.  Second by Russell.  Motion approved.
  • Dave reviewed the event details of the upcoming Spring MWRC, which is a joint conference with the Rio Grande Conference, from June 13-16, 2013.  Registration for the event is $75 if received before May 10, 2013 and includes a t-shirt.  After May 10th, the registration increases to $85 and does not include a t-shirt.
  • David briefed the chapter on the upcoming chapter sponsored ride to support Stephens County Youth Services.  The suggested dates are May 18th and May 25th.  A committee meeting will be scheduled in the near future and announced.  This meeting will discuss the route, stops, etc.
  • Dan reminded everyone that the 2013 BK International Conference from July 14-19, 2013, will be held in Hot Springs, AR.
  • Dan stated that he has received a response from almost all the chapters in the state with  overwhelming support of  the idea of conducting a “state wide” ride event, where participates will visit the area where each chapter is located and be escorted (accompanied) by a member of that area chapter.  Dan is requesting volunteers for our area as well as suggestions for a “scenic spot” and two “good places to eat”.  Volunteers please send Dan your email address and phone number so that it can be placed on a master list of participates along with your suggestions.

New Business:

  • Ron briefed everyone that there is now a mobile Roadside Assistance Program application on the International Website that list names with a telephone numbers of other Blue Knight members, that are willing to provide assistance to others in distress alongside the roadway.  This database is self-administered so you all have full control over your own information. The database can be assessed with your international “log-in” credentials at: http://blueknights.org/mo/roadside/login.php
  • Russell gave a briefing on his updated medical situation, everything is looking good and he is getting stronger each day.
  • Dave gave Bryan’s safety report – We probably should start thinking of a date and location for a safety / skills refresher.  Please ask everyone watch their rearview mirrors when stopped in traffic and have an escape route if the car behind you doesn’t stop.
  • Raymond provided information about what is going on with his “pancreas”.   He has a few upcoming scheduled appointments, so more into to follow.
  • Gilbert told everyone that he now has great blood flow to both of his legs and well as two more stint’s in his heart and that he is feeling healthy and stronger as ever.
  • David briefed everyone on an upcoming ride that scheduled for March 23rd.  The idea is to meet up with members of Oklahoma VI Altus, Oklahoma, for lunch.   We will be eating at the La Fiesta Restaurant, 1206 U.S. 81, by Walmart.  Departure times are 10:30am at the Lawton/Duncan “Y” and 11:15am at the Circle C, at US 62 and Hwy 115 in Cache.  More info and reminder emails to follow.

February 7, 2013 Meeting

Meeting was called to order by President Ron Corcorran at 7:04 PM

Old Business:

  • Motion was made by Gilbert to approve the January 2013 meeting minutes which have been available for members to read online at the chapter website.  Second by Charles.  Motion approved.
  • Motion was made by Charles to approve the February 2013 finance report given by the Treasurer, Ray Pyeatt.  Second by Gilbert.  Motion approved.
  • Ron attempted to call Russell Baucom at home so that the chapter could send him good tidings.  Russell is recovering from an operation.  The speaker phone did not work as planned, however Ron was able to talk with Russell and give a report on his condition to the members present.
  • David briefed the chapter on the upcoming chapter sponsored ride to support Stephens County Youth Services.  The suggested dates are May 18th and May 25th.  Our POC was unable to be contacted because of out of state medical issues, however another committee meeting will be scheduled in the near future and announced.  This meeting will discuss the route, stops, etc.

New Business:

  • “Frosty Ride” – David has scheduled a ride for Sunday, February 24th.  Everyone will meet up at “Pumpkin Center” at 12:30PM.  The end destination is the Braum’s in Chickasha, OK, for an ice cream treat, however only David knows the route <smile>.
  • Motion was made by Don and seconded by David to wave the chapter ride and “in person” voting requirements to welcome back a chapter founding member and longtime Blue Knight, Butch Jennings.  Butch was a member of the club for eight years and due to heath reasons, he had to drop his membership.  Butch lives in Moore, OK, and looks forward to riding with us again.  Motion was unanimously approved.  Welcome back Butch!!!
  • Dave presented Ron a nameplate for his vest with his name and “President” engraved.
  • New member packets were presented to Charles Norman and David Woods.  Better late than never…
  • Bryan gave a quick safety briefing on checking the air pressure in your tires prior to riding.
  • Dan and Tracy displayed their new “darker” blue, Blue Knights vests.
  • David passed out the hoodies and t-shirts that were ordered last meeting.
  • Dan gave a briefing on cost of embroidering vs. using a patch on a possible item that the chapter could sell in the International magazine.  Suggestions and discussions of possible products were a blanket, beach towel, and laptop sleeves.  More to follow.
  • Dan suggested that a good ride in the future would be to visit the Blue Bell Ice Cream factory in Tulsa, OK.

January 3, 2013 Meeting

The meeting was called to order by President Corcorran at 7:18pm.

This month’s meeting was held at the Chateu 3015 on Hwy 81 in Duncan.

Motion was made by Gilbert to approve minutes of the December meeting which have been available for members to read online. Second by Charles. Motion approved.

Motion was made by Gilbert to suspend the reading of the Treasurer’s report. Second by Charles due to Ray having a death in the family (distant relative) and was unable to attend the meeting.  Motion approved.

New Business:

We had a guest speaker from the Stephens County Youth Services.  Ms. Davis, who works at the “Children’s Shelter”, she briefed the chapter about the history of the shelter, day to day operations, and what age groups the shelter is designed for.  Ms. Davis and the Stephens County Youth Services is in the process of raising funds to build a new home for the children and has currently raised $650k of a $1 million dollar goal.  The children’s shelter has been in operation since 1976 and handles about 120 children each year.  The new home will be located at 806 North 5th Street, Duncan, Oklahoma.

Motion was made by Dan to support the Stephens County Youth Services Children’s Shelter with a poker ride.  Dates and planning of the event to follow.  Second by Charles.  Motion approved.

Motion was made by Charles to pay for Russell Baucom’s 2013 chapter dues, due to health issues and expenses. Second by Bryan.  Motion approved.

President Corcorran reported the 2013 Spring Conference will be held in Eureka Spring, AR, from Jun 13-16, and is a joint conference with the MWRC and the RGC.

Dan talked about the idea to sponsor a series of rides to areas around the state near other Chapters and that he has had favorable comments by the other chapter presidents in the state that would love to support the idea.  The riders would have to meet someone from the local Chapter and have their picture taken with their bike and the local member at the designated location. This will give Blue Knights across the state the opportunity to meet other Knights.  David, Gilbert, Ron, and Dave are on the committee and a meeting will be held sometime in January to iron out the details.

President Corcorran gave a report on the Toys for Tots ride in Duncan, on December 2nd. He stated the turnout by the community was outstanding and based on the number of motorcycles in attendance, it had to be a huge success.

David volunteered to be the point of contact for t-shirt and sweatshirt orders.  Please contact him direct with your orders.

Leonard stated he would like to see younger blue knights members in our chapter.

Bryan gave a safety report on checking the air in your tires, especially with the cold weather and the changes in temperature, prior to riding.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:50pm.  The next meeting will be in Lawton, on February 7th.
