Blue Knights Monthly Meetings

April 2019

We met at La Fiesta restaurant in Duncan.

Members in attendance: Johnnie and Carrie Drewery, Dan and Tracie Fletcher, Harvell Jefferson, David Mcdermott, Jaun Rodriguez, David Woods

Guests in attendance: Roberto Peralta, Don and Deana (apologies I didn’t get their last name), and Tommy Dale 

Business attended to:

Dave Mcdermott had prepared and submitted the minutes for the month of March and it was approved.

Dan Fletcher wants to make one ride a month. He talked about going to a sod house. It was decided that a ride would be scheduled for the 11th of May with meeting location and times to follow                                                                                                                                                                                                            Dave McDermott spoke of going on the memorial run in honor of his brother in law in OKC. He also recognized former OK4 member Tommy Dale and welcomed him to the meeting.                                 

Johnny Drewery spoke of doing a poker run in Septmeber to benefit the Lawton Public School Canine program.

It was agreed to buy flowers for Ron Corcorran’s mother’s funeral.

The Treasurer’s report was given by Dave Mcdermott.

1905: Gill and Juan made motions to start meeting

Russell and Gill made motions to accept the last month’s minuets

Johnny advised that there was a Blue Knight in Misssissippi that has cancer and Johnny was sending a chapter patch to him and that there would be a ride for his benefit (see Johnny for details)

Johnny spoke about the fundraiser our chapter will be hosting in September to support a police canine for Lawton Public Schools

Dan spoke about pre-planning a monthly ride. He advised he will but if anyone else wanted to that they could as well.  That spurred some conversations about old gunfighters and rides to different areas. There’s a  possible ride in June to somewhere north west.

Juan spoke about keeping brotherhood in the club and keeping family involved in the club

Roberto made mention of the Blue Knight Facebook and discussion then followed.

Russell advised that he has had his last surgery for his cancer.

David W. gave a brief summary of the financial report ( Juan and Gill approved)

Meeting was called to order at 7:22 pm

Our visitors were introduced by Juan.  Roberto, Dale, and Donnie, are interested in membership and will be working on their applications and ride requirements.  Donnie mentioned that he loves to do day rides around the Lawton area and that there are many historic places to visit.

Johnnie mentioned that our chapter anniversary will be on September 17th and that he would like to do something, maybe in Marlow at his house.  More to follow.  Johnnie also talked about possibly doing an event for a non-profit organization for young parents in Chickasha called Life Choices – http://www.lifechoiceschickasha.com/

Johnnie also provided everyone information of the upcoming DAV #56 Poker Run, on April 6th, which will start at Wind River HD.  More information to follow as we receive it.

Dan will be putting together some rides together utilizing the OK Tourism brochures produced by the state. –

LaOne stated that she would love to do a picnic again this year.

Juan talked about possibly doing something for the new K9 program that has been started at Lawton Public Schools (LPS) and that on Saturday, April 30th, there will be the Cops for Kids Poker Run. – https://www.lawtonok.gov/events/lawton-police-department-poker-run-car-show

Meeting was called to order at 7:06 pm

The treasurer report was given by Dave and was recommended approval by Juan and Russell.  Motion passed.

Juan introduced his guest Roberto Peralta, who is retired from the Lawton Police Department.  Roberto is interested in membership and will be working on his two group rides.

Russell gave a report that his blood results from cancer came back negative.

Johnnie presented his and Juan’s thoughts on growing the membership and the activities in our chapter.  Johnnie would like to have a poker run in June in support of “domestic violence”, along with monthly chapter rides.  Dave suggested that member post rides that they are doing on the Facebook page that they would like to share with others as a possible way of doing more rides together.

Juan praised the family-oriented concept of the Blue Knights and felt that it is a big attraction for future members.  Juan also gave a quick safety report on riding in cold weather and the importance of checking your tires air pressure.

Everyone discussed upcoming rides and things that they would like to schedule. Here is an example of some possible rides in Oklahoma.  Dan told everyone that he had to postpone his ride to the Texas Hill Country area because of weather, but plans trying to schedule it again for the April/May time frame.
